NBT Newsdesk: India‘s influencer marketing industry is worth more than Rs 1800 crore, but would you believe that out of all the influencers, only a few have real followers? Yes, the report of influencer marketing platform KlugKlug has claimed that in India, two out of every three, i.e. about 58.5%, more than 60% followers of Instagram profiles are fake. Influencers buy fake followers by paying money to increase their reach and attract brands. According to the report, the trend of increasing fake followers is most visible in the beauty and fashion industry. Brands associated with this industry tie up with famous influencers and make them a part of their brand campaigns, but they also do not know that they can suffer financial loss due to fake followers. According to the report, out of 80 lakh audited profiles, only 24.8 lakh profiles have true followers.
How to become fake followers?
KlugKlug co-founder Kalyan Kumar says that right now India is the biggest buyer and seller of fake followers. This game of fake followers is going on on a large scale not only in India but also in Brazil and Indonesia. Russia and Turkey also remain exporters of synthetic followers. These are followers who are created through AI or other methods. Such profiles are sold as genuine followers. The work of fake followers is also going on in the Middle East.
Lots of followers for few rupees
According to the report, to buy one thousand fake followers one has to spend only Rs 8 to 10. Sometimes even Rs 50 can be charged for one thousand followers on Instagram. In India, influential people are buying fake followers indiscriminately. Now even less influential people have started buying fake followers, due to which its business is increasing further.
