US decides to reopen Solomon Islands embassy against China

by time news

The United States has said it will re-establish an embassy in the Solomon Islands, one of the Pacific island nations, in an effort to curb China’s influence.

The decision was announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blingen, who was touring Fiji.

He noted that China was “aggressively” seeking to involve political and business leaders in the Solomons.

Therefore, the US Secretary of State said that its actions are truly worrying.

The United States closed the embassy in the Solomon Islands in 1993, following the country’s economic woes and protests against China.
