Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko instructed senators to prepare and send a request to the Armenian parliament in connection with the anti-Russian statements of Speaker Alen Simonyan, Day.Az reports with reference to Russian media.

Speaking at the conference of the chairmen of the parliaments of the European Union states, Simonyan in particular stated that taking into account the fact that “the focus of the conference is the issue of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Middle East conflict,” he would like to confirm that Armenia “resolutely defends the territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as Moldova, Georgia, Cyprus and all countries.”

“I would like to ask my colleague, the chairman of the Armenian parliament, a question: on whose behalf did he voice such stories?… We cannot ignore such Russophobic speeches <...>. I would send a written request to the Armenian parliament asking on whose behalf he spoke and whether the Armenian parliament shares the assessments expressed at this meeting,” said the speaker of the Federation Council.

She expressed the hope that the country’s parliament will ask the speaker “who gave him the right to speak on behalf of Armenia with such passages, and will also give an assessment.” “We will not ignore this kind of Russophobic, anti-Russian speech. It was just a shame for our colleague that he had already crossed all the red lines,” Matvienko said.
