The Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion, Zaida Rovira Jurado, together with authorities from specialized organizations and agencies of the UN and national authorities from the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES), They visited and toured the facilities where the first “Comprehensive Family Space” will be enabled.located in the Ferroviaria sector, south of Quito.

This project seeks to bring together various social and economic inclusion services provided by MIES; as well as coordination with other State institutions to comprehensively serve the families that live in this sector and in the south of the city. It also seeks to promote community participation, in protective and safe environments, which encompass the implementation of services in health, nutrition, education, well-being, among others.

During this activity, Minister Rovira said that this project means a commitment to the articulation of inclusive and intercultural services, essential for the economic and social insertion of communities. Likewise, she pointed out that support and coordination with international organizations are important in the generation of public policies aimed at the vulnerable population.

The minister also informed the UN authorities who accompanied this tour about the actions carried out by the MIES to guarantee rights and improve the quality of life of people who belong to priority groups and those who are in situations of poverty and extreme poverty. “As a Government, we are taking firm steps and laying the foundations to initiate and advance projects that benefit those who need it most.”

For her part, Lena Savelli, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Ecuador, highlighted the social work carried out by the MIES for the social protection of the vulnerable population, as part of the National Development Plan. “Count on the support of the different UN organizations and agencies to carry out these social projects,” she said.

Authorities from the United Nations Development Program – UNDP, the World Food Program – WFP, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees – UNHCR, and the United Nations Fund participated in this visit and tour of the first Comprehensive Family Space. for Children – UNICEF, the International Labor Organization – ILO, the Inter-American Development Bank – IDB, among others.

Initially, this Comprehensive Family Space will have a Child Development Center, which will serve about 36 girls and boys, ages 1 to 3, who live in this popular Quito neighborhood. In addition, a space will be enabled to hold baking workshops focused on strengthening the community’s capabilities and promoting its economic inclusion. The MIES has planned to inaugurate this space at the end of April of this year.

It should be noted that this State portfolio planned to serve 20,293 people from vulnerable groups in the south of Quito with its services, bonuses and pensions, which represents an investment of around USD 31 million.
