Vorarlberg’s governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP), current chairman of the state governors’ conference, can imagine compulsory vaccination without punishment. He does not believe that automatic sanctions are needed in the current state of affairs, Wallner told the Vorarlberger News. In the run-up to the easing summit on Wednesday, the governor advocated a change in the quarantine rules and an end to the free corona tests.
When it comes to compulsory vaccination, it must be clarified with the experts “what we need with a view to autumn,” said Wallner. To combat the omicron wave, compulsory vaccination does little, said Wallner when asked whether compulsory vaccination should be taken into account during police checks from mid-March. It should also be questioned whether all those who have not been vaccinated should subsequently be automatically threatened with punishment. “You can go slower there,” he said. At the same time, with a view to autumn, Wallner warned against abolishing the obligation to vaccinate.
In terms of isolation, the governor called for the quarantine regulations to be replaced by influenza management. This would make domestic isolation history, only people with symptoms would have to stay at home. Tests should also be reduced to those people who are symptomatic. From Wallner’s point of view, the end of the free tests has also come. The tests should only be free if they are mandatory or if you need a test for work. In general, for Wallner it could be the case in March that the “G” rules will largely disappear.
