“The choices take into account the experience of the players, especially as major deadlines are fast approaching (the CAN next January, editor’s note), but there are also players for the future,” said Regragui who presented , at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, a list of 25 players dominated by executives.

“The priority is for the current matches (…) For the next generation, there is also the Olympic team which prepares the players of the future”, said Regragui, during the press conference held on this occasion, specifying that this is not necessarily the final list for the next African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

“This list is not necessarily that of the players who will go to the CAN. The choices are based on competitiveness, and apart from the executives whose role is important, many players play their place in the selection during the qualifying matches , knowing that others who are not called up today may be called up later,” said the national coach.

“The list is not final. Many players deserve to be there, even if they are not called up today,” he insisted, adding that the places in the selection are “expensive”.

“The players in the framework are multiple and leave few places for others. So it’s the performance and the level that decides,” explained Regragui.

Asked about the absences and risks of injury of certain key players, he affirmed that these are hazards to which we must adapt.

The coach of the national team has, in the same sense, assured that his permanent concern is the search for quality players to supply his group.

“We are fixed on the tactical level, but not on the choice of players, because we are always looking for quality,” he said, adding: “I try to be as logical as possible in my choice in terms of level, career choice, age and competitiveness.

In addition, he affirmed that things remain clearer on the tactical level. “During the last matches, we had more answers than questions, and we put our finger on the problems and the solutions to be provided,” he assured.

This list is retained in anticipation of the training which begins on Monday, November 13, in preparation for Morocco’s matches against Eritrea and Tanzania, as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Moroccan selection is housed in group E of these qualifiers alongside Congo, Niger, Tanzania, Zambia and Eritrea.
