Organized by Open Water Event, a sports company, a pioneer in the organization of exceptional open water events, this sporting event is a special edition which will give rise to an international competition from 2024.
This crossing, whose starting point was given from the bottom of the lagoon towards the beach “Al Moussafir” (arrival point), was carried out by three swimmers, namely the two Moroccans, Dino Sebti and Nadia Ben Bahtane , and the Frenchman Sebastien Deflandre, having covered 25 km in 7h30 min.
In a statement to MAP, the swimmers said they were proud to have been able to do this symbolic swim called “Green Swimming”, highlighting the captivating beauty of this natural space.
Despite the weather conditions marked by a strong wind, continued the swimmers, this edition took place in good conditions, expressing their wish to see more swimmers participate in future editions.
For her part, the president of the collective “We are Dakhla”, Rabea El Hajji indicated that in parallel with the crossing, her association took the initiative to carry out a cleaning operation at the lagoon.
“We have also installed the “Glutton Fish” at Al Moussafir beach, dedicated to the fun collection of recyclable beach waste, including aluminum cans and plastic bottles,” she noted.
Founded by Edith Molina, the Open Water event is a sporting company, a pioneer in the organization of open water events. Since 2015, the Open Water event has organized the Morocco Swim Trek, the first open water event in Morocco.
The “We are Dakhla” collective, which has around 150 members, is an association which organizes environmental actions with the aim of raising awareness among the inhabitants of the lost South of the importance of environmental protection.
Named “Green Swimming” in reference to the glorious green march celebrated on November 6 each year, this event also aims to bring more light to the city of Dakhla, its sporting potential and its youth.
