The Moroccan government announced, on Monday, an increase in the monthly wages of public sector employees by one thousand dirhams, equivalent to ($100), in addition to raising the minimum private sector wage by 10%.
Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch announced the increase in a statement to journalists, following the signing of an agreement between the government and the unions.
Akhannouch said, “The government, within the framework of the new round of social dialogue, was able to take a set of measures to improve the income of private and public sector employees,” explaining that half of the monthly raise amount will be disbursed as of the beginning of next July, and the second half as of July 2025.
The Moroccan Prime Minister indicated that the income tax will be reduced by an amount of up to 400 dirhams ($40) per month, and the minimum wage for the private sector will be raised by 10%, 5% starting next January and 5% starting in January 2026.
The minimum wage currently stands at 3,120 dirhams ($312), before the increase scheduled today.
The Moroccan government’s signing of the social agreement with the unions comes two days before International Workers’ Day on May 1.
