Two more level roundabouts will be added to the section of the Ioannina – Arta National Road from the Egnatia Road junction to the Ionian Road junction in Avgo, in addition to the “twin” roundabouts at the height of Neokaisarea and those that have already begun to be constructed in Bizani to serve the traffic towards the Episcopal Church and the Museum of Vrellis.
The Regional Committee, in today’s meeting, decided to approve the study for the construction of a roundabout in the IKEA area and its connection to the existing network of the area, with a budget of 74,400 euros including VAT. As the regional governor of Epirus explained, this junction arose following a request from the residents of Episkopikos, who asked to consider the case of a vertical road from the existing parallel road of IKEA, in order to ensure faster access to their village.
In fact, he announced the study of the construction of another roundabout, at the height of the Volvo dealership, so that the community of Ampelia is also served.
The issue of departmental studies was raised by the heads of the opposition factions, who participate in the Regional Committee, saying that it could be studied as a whole from the Avgo junction to the Egnatia junction
Mr. Kahrimanis argued that it is being done piece by piece, because there was no money to study the road as a whole, while, answering the question whether road safety is ensured only with roundabouts on a road that does not have an island, he said that it is an almost urban road road, on which even if accidents happen, there will be no deaths.
The head of the “People’s Rally of the Epirus Region”, Giorgos Prentza, raised the issue of approving an appeal to a negotiation process, with the application of Article 32 instead of an open tender, saying that the question arises as to whether it will be given as a complementary project to the contracting company, which also performs the project at Episkopikou junction. Mr. Kahrimanis was categorical that the project will not be given as a supplement, adding that the company in question has not received any project commissioned by the Region of Epirus.
