The semi-final first leg of the Champions League between Gregor Kobel’s Borussia Dortmund and PSG ended in a 1-0 victory for the Germans. At home, BVB therefore takes a small option in the final before the return match in Paris next Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.
The game between the two teams started on a cautious basis. Both Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain played with a very low block, favoring the 10-man pass rather than vertical play.
It was PSG who created the first chance of the match in the 11th minute. But Dembélé, outside the area, crossed his shot too much. In the 14th minute, it was the Germans who hit the first shot on target via Sabitzer, who found Donnarumma from a tight angle.
A bright pass to open the score
We had to wait until the 36th minute to see the first flash of the match. A bright pass from Schlotterbeck from his camp allowed Füllkrug to go alone to beat the Parisian goalkeeper.
The opening score did the Germans good. They increased their offensive attempts and were very close to 2-0, but Donnarumma made a superb save on a volley from Sabitzer in the 44th minute.
PSG pushes after the break
Returning from the locker room, PSG was more enterprising and Borussia can thank its posts… and twice! In the 51st minute, Mbappé fired a shot that crashed into Kobel’s right post and only a few seconds later Hakimi saw the left post push his attempt away this time.
The pressure from the Parisians increased and Kobel played the role of savior in the 54th minute by stopping another shot from Mbappé. The game then opened, and both PSG via Ruiz in the 56th and Dortmund via Füllkrug in the 59th and 66th narrowly missed the target.
It was then once again Kobel who saved his team on a chance from Dembélé in the 72nd minute. And despite still a few heated situations on both sides, including a shot from Dembélé in the 80th which went over the cage, the score remained there.
