The launching ceremony of this new training will take place in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, the UNESCO Office in Morocco, and the Regional Chamber of Crafts of Marrakech-Safi, indicates a press release from the ministry.

The launch of this sector in partnership with UNESCO is part of the application of the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, contained in the Royal message addressed to participants in the 17th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage organized in Morocco in 2022, in which the Sovereign emphasized the importance of preserving this intangible cultural heritage as “a powerful marker of our identity, an essential component of our collective memory, a vehicle ideals and values that unite us, potential heritage for future generations,” said the press release.

The launch of this new training is also part of the implementation of a partnership agreement signed on the sidelines of the said event, between the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy and the UNESCO, relating to the establishment of a sustainable system of skills transfer and transmission of know-how linked to craft professions, in particular those classified by the national inventory carried out by the Ministry with the support of this UN organization, as being threatened with disappearance.

This agreement, it is recalled, provides on the one hand for the encouragement of master craftsmen carrying unique ancestral knowledge and skills, and who will be granted the title of “Living Human Treasures”, to share their knowledge and skills, and on the other hand encouraging young people to learn, rebuild and recreate this artisanal heritage, while offering them a qualifying training program.

The same source would like to recall that the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy and UNESCO launched last November in Rabat the National System of Living Human Treasures, which targets in its first edition six trades threatened with disappearance, including “the manufacture of musical instruments”.

This training, which will extend over nine months for the year 2023-2024, will be supervised by Mustapha Zouateni, a craftsman specializing in the manufacture of musical instruments, who will be responsible for transmitting his know-how. and its knowledge in this profession for the benefit of 10 trainees selected from the Marrakech-Safi region, with the aim of safeguarding this profession and ensuring its sustainability, the press release concludes.
