In order to improve the physical and mental health of Lithuanian residents, amendments to the Labor Code providing for this were registered by LVŽS faction elder Aušrinė Norkienė and other parliamentarians belonging to the faction.
According to the “peasants” of the Seimas, the current procedure is flawed, because “the duration of annual vacations in Lithuania is the smallest that can be according to the requirements of the European Union (EU).
According to their data, in other western countries, such as Austria, Denmark, France, Finland, Sweden, annual leave is between 25 and 35 working days.
“Psychological studies show that during the first weeks of vacation, the mind is not yet detached from daily work, and only later does relaxation begin. It is considered that after an employee has worked 11 months in a year, one month should be reserved for vacation. Holidays are not a substitute for a vacation, as they are only momentary rest. In addition, national holidays are often working days. Employees in Lithuania work the longest and are among the highest positions in the entire EU in terms of hours worked,” the document’s explanatory note says.
The amendment proposes to establish an annual vacation of at least 22 working days or at least 26 working days for employees.
At present, employees are granted a minimum of 20 or 24 working days of annual leave.
If the Seimas approves, employees under the age of 18, employees raising a child under the age of 14 alone or a disabled child under the age of 18, and disabled employees would be granted annual leave of 27 or 32 working days.
Currently, such employees are granted 25 or 30 working days of annual leave.
It is proposed that the amendments to the Labor Code enter into force in 2025. January 1
