Patna: The opposition alleges that if BJP comes to power this time, it will abolish the Constitution. The opposition has also raised questions about BJP’s intentions on reservation. When Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge started warning about the threat to the Constitution from BJP, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav clearly said that if BJP comes to power this time, it will end reservations. However, Lalu is not trying to cross the boat with the help of reservation for the first time. Lalu Prasad Yadav had raised this issue in the Bihar Assembly elections held in the year 2015 and the Grand Alliance government was formed in Bihar.
BJP in the trap of the Opposition
Till now it was believed that PM Narendra Modi turns the opposition’s attack into a necklace. Whenever the opposition raises a serious issue, PM Modi strikes a chord on another issue. The issue of opposition itself gets lost in Modi’s chant. BJP has also been capitalizing on the opposition’s allegations in its favor. Modi had turned Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ slogan in his favor. BJP started the campaign of ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’. When Lalu raised questions on Modi’s family, Modi and his party BJP started ‘Modi’s Family’ campaign. This time, as the heat of Lok Sabha elections is rising, the opposition has raised such sensitive issues of Constitution and reservation that BJP leaders are now having to waste time in giving clarification. BJP cannot even laugh it off. Doing this will only strengthen the opposition’s efforts to dent the BJP. This is the reason why everyone from PM Modi to BJP stalwarts are speaking more on these two issues in every election meetings.
Bhagwat had to give clarification
Even Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat has to open his mouth on reservation. Bhagwat has said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has always supported reservation and it should be continued, as there are social inequalities in the country. He said that he saw a video circulated on social media. It was said in it that the Sangh is against reservation. There is no truth in such statements. As long as there is discrimination in the society, reservation should continue. He had said that discrimination exists in the society, even if it is not visible. The Sangh Parivar has never opposed reservations given to certain groups.
Although these leaders get furious just by discussing reservation, but there is silence on Congress from UP to Bihar!
Muslim reservation issue
PM Modi is not only giving clarification on the controversy raised by the opposition on reservation, but is also trying to corner the Congress. The Congress government in Karnataka has included Muslims in OBC and given them the benefit of reservation. Regarding this, Modi called Congress the ‘biggest enemy of the OBC community’ in a rally in Madhya Pradesh. He said that Congress has usurped the OBC community by including Muslims with OBCs through the back door. In Karnataka, Modi said- Congress is planning religion based reservation in the country only for vote bank politics. I won’t let that happen. Most of the SC, ST and OBC MPs are from BJP. Congress wants to loot SC, ST and OBC to gain the trust of minorities. He guaranteed the people of Dalit, tribal and OBC groups that he will not allow such intentions of Congress to succeed.

Reservation has become an issue
BJP has suffered the brunt of Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on reservation. In the year 2015, Mohan Bhagwat had reached Bihar during the assembly elections. He had talked about reviewing reservation. Then the mind of Lalu, who took charge of the election campaign of the Grand Alliance, opened up. He expanded it by saying that BJP wants to end reservation. Then Nitish Kumar also separated from BJP and became a part of the Grand Alliance. The combined strength of RJD and JDU and above all the support of Congress and Left had done wonders. In the election results, BJP had to lag far behind the Grand Alliance. However, when Lalu started propagating that BJP wants to end reservation on the basis of Bhagwat’s statement regarding review of reservation, Bhagwat also clarified that this was not his intention. But, Lalu was successful in capitalizing on this issue.
