The Czech Republic is trying to establish contacts with Azerbaijani companies within the framework of the Ring of Solidarity initiative through the energy conglomerate CEZ, which could take on the role of an observer in the context of diversification of supplies.

As Day.Az reports, a source in the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic reported this to Trend on Tuesday.

“Joining the Ring of Solidarity project would mean we would be at the end of the chain of states participating in this initiative. Currently, we are paying more attention to strengthening other supply routes to be able to diversify our gas sources,” the source said.

The Ring of Solidarity is a joint initiative of Bulgartransgaz, Transgaz, FGSZ and Eustream aimed at providing additional natural gas transportation capacity in TSOS networks. The pipeline can transport up to 5-9.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

In a short time and with a gradual increase in the capacity of the existing infrastructure, this cross-border initiative will allow transporting up to 5-9.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Azerbaijan to Eastern, Central and Western Europe through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.

Let us recall that on April 25, a ceremony was held in Sofia to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to promote cooperation between Bulgartransgaz (Bulgaria), Transgaz (Romania), FGSZ (Hungary), Eustream (Slovakia) and the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

It should be noted that the Memorandum of Understanding defines the areas of cooperation between the four gas transmission system operators and SOCAR for additional gas supplies to Europe. Additional gas supplies will be carried out through an improved network of gas transmission systems in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia, called the “Solidarity Ring”.
