Today, the contract for the construction of irrigation networks in the PE of Trikala, with a budget of 13.1 million euros, was signed, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras.
Also present at the signing of the contract in the Municipality of Trikkaia were the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Infrastructure Nikos Tahiaos, the Vice-Regional Governor of the Municipality of Trikala Chrysa Dinti, the Mayor of Trikkaia and President of PED Thessaly Nikos Sakkas and the Mayor of Pili Kostas Maravas.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport emphasized that the interventions refer to all four Municipalities of the Trikala Region (Pylis, Farkadona, Trikkaia and Meteora), while the underground irrigation networks will have a total length of more than 255 km.
As Mr. Staikouras noted:
“The project is co-financed, with a rate of 85%, by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the Rural Development Program (RDP) 2014-2020 and has a duration of 24 months from the signing of the contract.
With its completion, significant economic and social benefits will arise in the PE of Trikala, such as:
* Saving water by minimizing losses from the new networks,
* Saving energy wasted by continuous pumping,
* Reduction of the economic cost of pumping,
* Reduction of network maintenance costs,
* Increase in agricultural production.
* Increasing the income of the cultivators.
At the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, with hard work, planning and method, we continue to invest in sustainable, large, but also smaller projects, in terms of economic efficiency and social reciprocity. Projects that respect the environment, improve the quality of life of farmers, create jobs and strengthen regional development”.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tahiaos stated:
“The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the entire Government, have focused our efforts on Thessaly, in order to bring normalcy as soon as possible.
However, regardless of the works related to the restoration of damages by “Daniel” and “Elias”, we are planning the future of the area with new projects for its flood protection and development.
We are signing such a project today, the construction of which will fall to the Water Management Organization of Thessaly, which will also have the responsibility of distributing water to the areas that are irrigated. The implementation of the project will be carried out with the cooperation of the Region and the Municipalities”.
