The radical Palestinian movement Hamas has received an “extremely generous” ceasefire offer from Israel in the Gaza Strip.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated this at a special session of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh.

“I want to express my deep gratitude to our friends in Qatar and Egypt, who were instrumental in trying to achieve a ceasefire and the release of the hostages. Hamas now faces an extremely generous offer from Israel. The only thing standing between the people of Gaza and a ceasefire in at the moment, it is Hamas,” said the Secretary of State, whose speech was broadcast on the forum’s website.

Earlier, Egypt handed over to Hamas an initiative agreed with the Israeli side, which involves the release of 20 to 40 hostages held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for a ceasefire. A Hamas delegation is expected to arrive in Cairo to present its response to the latest ceasefire proposal to the Egyptian side. According to a source from the Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya TV channel, an agreement between Hamas and Israel will most likely be reached “within the next few days, even despite some reservations.”
