Superstar Rajinikanth’s film ‘Coolie’ is embroiled in controversies even before its release. South cinema’s veteran music director Ilaiyaraaja has sent a legal notice to the makers of Rajinikanth’s upcoming film ‘Coolie’. Ilaiyaraaja has taken this step against Sun Pictures. In the legal notice, he has alleged that a part of the song ‘Va Va Pakkam Va’ from the film ‘Thanga Magan’ has been used in the teaser of ‘Coolie’ without his proper consent. This is a violation of copyright. In this notice, Ilaiyaraaja has mentioned the earlier illegal use of his composed songs and music. He has also given the example of ‘Vikram 2’ and ‘Fight Club’.

Ilaiyaraaja said- remove the music, otherwise we will take action

Ilaiyaraaja has demanded that Sun Pictures either take proper permission for the use of the music, or remove that part from ‘Coolie’. He has also warned that if this is not followed, he will take legal action. Interestingly, in the film ‘Coolie’ which is accused of using music from the film ‘Thanga Magan’, Rajinikanth was also in the lead role.

Ilaiyaraaja said these things in the legal notice

The legal notice issued to Sun Pictures reads, ‘Our client is shocked, shocked and concerned to see that Sun Pictures has misused the music/lyrics without taking permission. Tamil cinematography. It further says, ‘You may also note that my client has never been approached to use it in the teaser of your film ‘Coolie’. Neither has consent been taken in any form. Whereas our clients retain all their statutorily protected rights (copyrights).

Said this about ‘Vikram 2’ and ‘Fight Club’

Referring to ‘Vikram 2’ and ‘Fight Club’, the notice further reads, ‘Some of the music works of our client have been copied from the previous films ‘Vikram-2’ (Vikram Vikram) and ‘Fight Club’ (En Jodi Manja Kuruvi). This is how ‘perverted use’ has taken place. For your information, let us tell you that the teaser of ‘Coolie’ was released last month on 22 April.
