BENGALURU: Plus One, Plus Two, PG diploma institutes and degree colleges in Karnataka, which were closed following the hijab controversy, will reopen on Wednesday. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bomma.
The CM also directed the security arrangements to be made while opening the colleges. The CM said that the directions of the High Court should be fully complied with. Higher Education Minister Ashwanth Narayan CN, Minority Welfare Minister Sreemanth Patil and Revenue Minister R Ashoka were also present on the occasion.
The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim order barring students from wearing religious attire in colleges until a verdict is reached on the hijab issue. The Karnataka High Court had directed all to exercise restraint and reopen the closed colleges on the issue of hijab till the verdict on the petition.
The issue of hijab is currently before a wide bench. A one-judge bench of Justice Krishna Dixit referred the matter to a wider bench. Educational institutions in Karnataka have been forced to close for three days following a dispute over the hijab. A group of Muslim girls studying in government colleges in Udupi district have approached the court against the ban on wearing hijab in classrooms.
