In a news interview held at the KBS Suwon Center, County Governor Kim Deok-hyeon said, “For the past two years, Yeoncheon-gun has continuously requested support from the central government and the National Assembly for Yeoncheon, which is a metropolitan area but is a border area and a declining population area. “The inclusion of Yeoncheon in the second home special area is the result of our military’s constant voice,” he said. “We will raise our voices so that the government’s various policies for local governments with declining populations in border areas, including the second home policy, can continue in the future.” emphasized.
Yeoncheon-gun is the only one of the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do to be included in the second home special area recently announced by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. The second home special exception is a policy that recognizes a homeowner as ‘one homeowner per household’ even if he or she acquires one additional home in Yeoncheon-gun. Even if a homeowner in the metropolitan area purchases a home in Yeoncheon-gun, a special second home area, he or she is recognized as a single homeowner and can receive benefits such as transfer tax, comprehensive real estate tax, and property tax.
Governor Kim said, “Yeoncheon-gun has had slow development due to the nature of the border area, but as a result, it is a land of opportunity that has preserved clean nature for more than half a century.” He added, “We will build a large-scale housing complex in the optimal location where the Imjin River and Hantang River flow through our own projects in the future.” “It’s a plan,” he said.
With the opening of metropolitan subway line 1 in December last year, expectations for regional development are growing. The number of visitors to Yeoncheon continues to increase due to the expansion of transportation infrastructure. Looking at the number of visitors to major tourist attractions as of last year, Jaein Falls recorded 548,000 people, Jeongok-ri Paleolithic Relics recorded 306,000 people, and Imjin River Dapsari Garden recorded 148,000 people.
