The Dhaka District Taxi, Taxi Car, Auto Tempu, Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union has demanded fixing the minimum wage of Tk 30,000, appointment letter, identity card for light vehicle drivers.
The organization made this demand from a rally organized in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday (May 1).
President of the organization Nazrul Islam Bablu spoke in the rally among others, Finance Secretary of Samajtantrik Sramik Front Zulfikar Ali, Union Vice President Biresh Das, Joint Secretary AR Alamgir, Organization Secretary Rubel Mia, Joint Secretary Habibur Habib, Finance Secretary Anwarul Islam, Office Secretary Shafiqul Mia. .
The leaders in the rally said that all the drivers, including light vehicle drivers, should be provided with employment certificates and identity cards according to the labor law. Undemocratic clauses and rules of Stop Retrenchment and Road Transport Act-2018 should be repealed. They also urged the government to take strict action against harassment of drivers in the name of dope test and illegal extortion by highway and traffic police.
The leaders demanded construction of parking stands for light vehicles and auto-tempu-auto rickshaws (CNG) at various intersections in Dhaka city and introduction of ration, pension, housing system for all drivers including workers.
