“Our dear homeland, Gabon, has been, for the third time, chosen as the host country for this new edition. To this end, the French Navy, in collaboration with the American Naval Forces in Africa, will host the management of the exercise, in Libreville. It will coordinate the maneuver of the naval forces of 29 nations engaged at sea throughout the Gulf of Guinea, as well as in land-based maritime operations centers throughout the region. All this, in full compliance with the Yaoundé Code of Conduct, which is a strategy for the prevention and repression of acts of piracy, armed robbery against ships and illicit maritime activities in West Africa. and the Center,” said the Chief of Staff of the National Navy, Charles Hubert Bekale Meyong, during the press briefing.
Obangame express is an international, multi-sectoral and multi-dimensional naval exercise, sponsored by the United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM) and implemented by its naval component (US NAVAF).
The overall objective of the exercise is to test naval forces in a wide range of maritime operations within the Gulf of Guinea, increasing the ability of participating nations to deter illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. , piracy, illicit trafficking and other maritime threats within this space. Also, to make the maritime space of the Gulf of Guinea a safe and secure zone, it is indicated.
