The reaction of the Union of Police Officers of Ioannina to the amendment submitted by the Ministry of Citizen Protection and which provides for a reduction in overnight expenses for off-site deployments “to support the Directorates of Security of Attica, Security of Thessaloniki and Transfer Courts of Attica” is strong.

The Union of Police Officers of Ioannina requests the withdrawal of the amendment and denounces as unacceptable, unheard of and with no trace of respect towards the police officers and their families, the attempted reduction of overnight accommodation expenses, noting as more tragic that, based on the explanatory report, the reduction is under the guise of tackling crime.
“Really gentlemen of the government, do you have a plan to deal with the rise in crime with cuts? Since when have you really been planning this? Because in all the meetings both at the local level with our Union, but also at the central level through the Federation, you expressed the constant interest of the Prime Minister and the government, in order to find ways to strengthen our low incomes”, notes EVII.
He adds that in December 2023, the government, with a bill of the Ministry of Finance, with a delay of nine years in relation to the wider public sector and after trade union struggles, regulated the overnight expenses of police personnel and in general of the Security Forces according to what applies to the rest of the civil servants. “The fact that after five months our minister, through an amendment, is unable to implement this law and proceeds with cuts, shows the lack of planning, planning, rationality and proper organization, for this reason we call on him to take back this unacceptable amendment”, concludes EVII.
