Apple’s new set-top box may have a built-in camera for making video calls on FaceTime and other video conferencing services.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru, this was reported by MacRumors, citing the new Power On newsletter from the famous insider and Bloomberg correspondent Mark Gurman.
According to Gurman, the Apple TV with camera will support “gesture control” but did not provide any further details. MacRumors added that starting with iOS 17, macOS Sonoma and tvOS 17, users can make hand gestures during video calls in the FaceTime app and other similar services to fill the screen with 3D effects. It is assumed that a similar option will appear in the new Apple TV.
“You can give two thumbs up to show fireworks on the screen, or make two peace signs with your hands to show confetti,” MacRumors describes how this option works.
It is unknown when exactly the new version of Apple’s set-top box will be presented. However, the same Gurman previously wrote that the release of the new product could happen in the first half of 2024.
MacRumors added that Apple TV users can now use the gadget to make video calls in FaceTime. However, to do this, the set-top box needs to be synced with the iPhone in order to use the smartphone’s camera.
