Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader commented that whether the ministers-MPs are supporting the relatives in the upazila is a big issue. He said, ‘No one is involved in influencing elections in isolation unless I or my party is in favor.’
He said this at a press conference at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi of the capital on Friday (May 3).
In response to a question about the upazila elections, Obaidul Quader said that many people have started withdrawing in the meantime. Some of us have already withdrawn. Our servant Dastgir’s son has withdrawn.
Referring to the fact that Obaidul Quader’s brother and nephew are candidates in the upazila, he said, you can ask, my relative has also become a candidate in an upazila. The question is, do we have support? Whether I am influencing the administration or the election in his favor is a matter to be seen. No one in the party has anything to do with it. No one in the lead has any support with it. There is no question of my support.

In response to a question about domestic and foreign pressure, Quader said that before the elections there were threats and threats, there was fear of sanctions. These were given openly. He said, those who wanted to keep us under pressure are now under pressure. Because the touch of the Arab Spring has reached the other side of the Atlantic. In order to face the conspiracy, the opposing forces of the liberation war should be united.
In response to another question, the general secretary of Awami League said that Begum Zia is caught in the trap of the law. A case was filed against him by the caretaker government. He was arrested in this case. Awami League did not file a case against him. BNP leaders and activists have also failed to hold a protest march demanding the release of Begum Zia.
He said, we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Awami League through massive celebrations. Programs will be held across the country on the occasion of our leader’s homecoming on May 17.
The Bridges Minister said that the opposition has created fear in the whole country in the name of agitation by preventing the elections, but the people are not on their side. BNP has weakened. Employees are frustrated.

He said that the caretaker government has filed a case against the BNP allegation that the government is obstructing Begum Zia’s treatment abroad. Awami League did not. He was arrested and imprisoned in that case. Rather, because of Sheikh Hasina’s generosity, the punishment has been suspended and arrangements have been made to stay at home and receive treatment. He even helped by bringing doctors from abroad for treatment.
