No one was injured in the traffic accident. An administrative offense has been initiated, the Police Department reported.
The accident happened around 4 p.m. 6 minutes Vilnius district, Plateliškiu village, at the intersection of Adam Mickevičius and Karveliškiu streets.
After the accident, both cars were badly damaged, and neither of them will probably be used again.
The car “VW Golf”, driven by an 82-year-old man, while leaving the side road, did not miss and collided with the service car “Škoda Kodiaq” driving on the main road, which was driven by police commissioner R. Požela, who was not in uniform and sober during work.
“He didn’t go fast. At the intersection from the side to the main one, he did not stop at the STOP sign, as he drove, he drove as he did, turning left. I drove from the left. Maybe the sun blinded the person. Thank god for no consequences. I don’t know if both cars will be repaired after the accident”, police general commissioner R. Požėla told Elta about the circumstances of the accident on Friday morning.
According to him, the front end of his 4-5-year-old company car is badly damaged, and the engine may be damaged.
“Yesterday it was stretched, now we are waiting for the verdict, whether it will be possible to use it or not.” The golf ball is probably going to the landfill too. It’s a pity for the person who told me that he passed the technical inspection just a few days ago,” R. Požėla told Elta. In addition, according to him, the road barrier was also slightly damaged.
According to him, the accident was caused by a driver who came from Jonava with passengers.
The Commissioner General of Police was driving without his official uniform, the culprit only later realized whose car he collided with.
“We always communicated very amicably all the time and parted amicably, without anger, what are you going to do – an accident happened,” R. Požėla told Elta.
The traffic accident is registered in the traffic accident information system.
According to the Commissioner General of Police, on the eve of Mother’s Day, many drivers who do not use their cars regularly take to the streets, so all road users must be extremely careful.
“Drivers of this age are at increased risk due to inattention,” says the police chief.
