In the return match away from home, the Italians will have a very tough task. With Thursday’s triumph, Leverkusen are unbeaten in 47 straight games.
Florian Wirtz sent the visitors into the lead in the first half after a mistake by Rick Karsdorp. The Roma defender played a loose pass home which was intercepted by Álex Grimaldo. He was unselfish and found Wirtz in an open goal. In the 2nd half, Robert Andrich doubled with a great long shot.
Leverkusen secured the club’s very first Bundesliga title in April. Leverkusen can still win both the Europa League and the German Cup in addition to the series. A maximum of six games remain this season for the team that faces Kaiserslautern in the cup final.
Coach Xabi Alonso was wanted earlier in the season as the new manager in both Liverpool and Bayern Munich, but he has chosen to stay in Leverkusen next season as well.
In the second semi-final, it ended 1-1 between Marseille and Atalanta. Gianluca Scamacca sent the visitors from Italy into the lead before Chancel Mbemba equalised.
The final will be played in Dublin on 22 May.
