Workers, unemployed, pensioners and many young people celebrated May Day in the street, against the practice of treating this day as a holiday and not as a strike.
Therefore, despite the transfer of the May Day holiday to Tuesday, May 7, Labor Center, Prefectural Department of ADEDY, trade unions and parties made an appointment in Kourmanio, from where they started a march through the main streets of Ioannina, demonstrating for better working conditions, collective contracts, wage increases and protection measures in the workplaces, but also to disengage the country from imperialist designs, at a time when the risks for the people are escalating.
“Today we also fought a big battle in the city of Ioannina. We consider it a symbolic day in 2024 as well. We see what is happening in our neighborhood with two major wars in Ukraine and Palestine. We call on all colleagues to fight for the next period in the workplaces for better hours, better working conditions, to sign collective labor agreements everywhere.
