The violence towards women in educational spaces is a phenomenon that lacerates Yucatana state that occupies third place among the states with the most cases.
Bullying at school is a form of violence usually directed towards girls, boys and adolescents, although there are also adults who suffer it in their work environment, explained the doctor. Patricia Gilí Lópezformer president of Yucatan College of Psychologistsin the frame of the World Day Against Bullyingan anniversary whose objective is to raise awareness in society about this crime.
According to the latest National Survey on the Dynamics of Relationships in Homes (Endireh) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), published in 2022, Yucatán has third place in prevalence of violence among women aged 15 and more in the school environment, after Queretaro y Ciudad from Mexico.
THEY COMMEMORATE THE DAY
Every May 2, this date is commemorated to raise awareness about the risk of these behaviors in children and adolescents, to global level.
Gilí López, who currently chairs the Federation of Professional Associations of Yucatán, stated that there are six types of bullying: physical, psychological, verbal, sexual, social and cyberbullyingwhich has gained relevance recently.
Regarding the latter, he commented that it has also grown due to the accessibility of technology and electronic devices, which in turn has led to young people recording themselves, for example, in an inconvenient state and that material circulate between phones.
According to Inegi, 19 percent of women ages 15 and older were victims of sexual violence; 18 percent, psychological, and 4.1 percent, physical, in Yucatecan school environments.
Gili Lopez He acknowledged that there has been a considerable increase in this type of behavior, not only in the state, but throughout the country, which, he reiterated, has led to brigades to work on raising awareness on this issue.
