Ulsan HD coach Hong Myung-bo, who became the first team to achieve five consecutive wins in K-League 1 in 2024, was confident that the team was growing with repeated wins.

Ulsan defeated FC Seoul 1-0 after a tight match in the 11th round of Hana Bank K League 1 2024 held at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 4th.

With this, Ulsan recorded 5 consecutive wins and took the lead with 7 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss (23 points).

After the game, Coach Hong Myung-bo said, “We expected that we would have physical difficulties because we had one more day of rest than our opponent, so we tried to control the game while holding the ball. “This part went well as planned, but we were passive in creating scoring opportunities, and there weren’t many chances,” he said, looking back on the game calmly.

As coach Hong Myung-bo said, Ulsan struggled against Seoul that day. Although they had a high share of the ball, they suffered from not being able to make even a single effective shot in the first 45 minutes.

It was not an easy situation, but Ulsan smiled with a one-goal lead when Martin Adam converted a penalty kick earned by an opponent’s handball foul in extra time in the second half. Among the 12 K-League teams this season, they were the first to achieve 5 consecutive wins.

Director Hong said, “It is a process of continuous development. “Good performance is important, but to become a champion, you have to produce results,” he said. “I feel that I have grown while playing for Ulsan and getting results.”

He continued, “The current lead doesn’t mean much. “It will turn around again someday,” he said. “I won wire-to-wire for two years in a row, but the process was difficult. It is difficult to consistently come in first place in a marathon. “The current situation is sufficient,” he added.

About 8,000 away fans from Ulsan visited the game on this day, and a total of 52,600 people attended, achieving the largest attendance for a single Korean professional sports game in 2024. It ranks 4th in the K League’s all-time largest audience and is the largest audience since the 2018 season, when only paid spectators were counted as official spectators.

Coach Hong said, “When I was a player, the K-League did not develop to this level. Ulsan also feels a lot of improvement compared to three years ago. I was grateful and touched that so many away fans came to the away game. “I am lucky to play in this atmosphere,” he said, expressing his gratitude to the fans.
