The European Judo Championship continues in Zagreb.

As reported by İdman.biz, on the third day of the competition, three Azerbaijani athletes took to the tatami. Eldzhan Gadzhiev (90 kg) became the champion, Murad Fatiev (90 kg) and Zelim Kotsoev (100 kg) lost in the bouts for bronze, becoming fifth.

90 kg

Eldzhan Gadzhiev began the fight from the second round, defeating Josip Bulic (Croatia). And his victory over Tristan Mosaklishvili (Spain) took him to the quarterfinals. At this stage, he beat Lasha Bekauri (Georgia), and in the semifinals he was stronger than Alex Cretu (Romania). In the final, Elcan defeated Christian Tóth (Hungary), winning the championship title for the first time.

Murad Fatiev beat Jamal Petgrave (Great Britain) and Giorgi Dzhabinashvili (Georgia), reaching the quarterfinals. At this stage he defeated Alexis Mathieu (France), making it to the semi-finals, where he lost to Christian Toth (Hungary).

Fatiev lost to Lasha Bekauri (Georgia) in the fight for bronze.

100 kg

Zelim Kotsoev started with a victory over Adnan Khankan (Refugee Team), after which he defeated Semyon Katarina (Netherlands) and Genaro Pirelli (Italy), reaching the semi-finals. At this stage, Zelim lost to Matvey Kanikovsky (Neutral status), and in the fight for bronze he lost to Michael Correll (Netherlands).

After the first two days of the championship, our team had two medals. The title was won by Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg), who has already become a four-time EURO winner, and Balabey Agayev (60 kg) won silver.
