Al Haouz: USAID launches eight new associative projects

The launch of these projects took place during a coordination meeting between civil society organizations, organized by the said program in partnership with the Al Haouz associative space, and thanks to the assistance of regional and provincial authorities.

These projects requiring the mobilization of a budget envelope of nearly 2 million DH, focus on employability, entrepreneurial leadership, cultural activities, promotion of the rights of women and those in situations of disadvantage. difficulty.

They will target several territorial communes at the level of Al Haouz which were deeply affected by the earthquake, as part of supporting reconstruction efforts and the fight against the repercussions of this natural disaster.

In a speech for the occasion, the acting director of USAID, Juan Carlos Rodriguez, indicated that the common objective is to provide support to civil society so that it is able to play its role in the promotion of the areas affected by the earthquake of September 8, as part of the colossal efforts carried out under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

After welcoming the multiple actions and initiatives undertaken to date, he indicated that USAID sets itself the objective of consolidating the aid and assistance efforts already deployed.

For his part, the director of the inclusive economic and social development program in the Marrakech-Safi region, Ahmed Jazouli noted that the work with civil society organizations and the constant support for this surge of national solidarity with the provinces affected by The earthquake aims to strengthen the capacities of beneficiary associations so that they are stronger and more effective in their actions and activities.

At the same time, he underlined the importance of cooperation between associations and public authorities, territorial municipalities with a view to complementing efforts and guaranteeing a considerable impact in practice.

For her part, Ms. Sawsan Étayai, vice director of the program, indicated that the ultimate purpose of financing these associative projects is to support the action currently carried out as part of the strengthening of the proximity policy concerning the national program for the reconstruction of areas impacted by the earthquake.

This meeting was also an opportunity for the associations receiving bonuses to coordinate with the rest of the partner associations for the implementation of the activities and objectives of the funded projects, i.e. on average 4 associations for each of those beneficiaries which will allow , in a first step, to reach a total of 32 associations.

The inclusive economic and social development program in the Marrakech-Safi region under USAID is part of the Morocco-USA cooperation strategy implemented for the period 2022-2027.

This program sets itself the objective of consolidating the performance and capacities of territorial communes at the level of the prefecture of Marrakech and the provinces within the region through the promotion and consolidation of participatory governance, the improvement of economic opportunities and standard of living of citizens, particularly women, young people and people with disabilities.

This program is structured into two major axes, the first of which aims to strengthen transparency, improve performance, promote results-based management in territorial municipalities, support the role of consultative bodies at the level of the Council of the region and local authorities at regional level, encouraging the association of citizens in the process of evaluating regional public policies, strengthening the advocacy capacities of civil society actors.

As for the second axis, it concerns support for development and economic inclusion opportunities through the adaptation of training to the needs of the job market, the encouragement of investment and entrepreneurship initiatives for strengthen production chains that provide major development opportunities at the regional level.
