Dieter Hecking is no longer the sports director in Nuremberg. The club announced this on Sunday.
In its sporting crisis, 1. FC Nürnberg has separated from sports director Dieter Hecking with immediate effect. The supervisory board of the Franconian second division club has agreed on this. As the club further announced, Hecking was informed about the dismissal in a personal conversation on Sunday afternoon at the Valznerweiher sports park.
No further changes in the sporting area are currently planned; the search for a successor for the 59-year-old is already underway. According to the information, Stefan Heim will temporarily take over the second board position alongside the commercial director Niels Rossow.
“The supervisory board regrets the development, but after a critical and careful analysis and consideration of all the facts, it has come to the decision that an end to the cooperation is unavoidable,” explained supervisory board chairman Peter Meier. The “Nürnberger Nachrichten” and “nn.de” first reported on the separation.
The sporting development is “unsatisfactory”
Hecking has “generated extraordinary player revenue in terms of the budget and has begun the process of integrating young players into the professional team in a special way. Nevertheless, the sporting development is declining this season and, looking back on the past four years, is at an unsatisfactory level constant. That’s why we’ll part ways,” Meier continued.
Hecking was successfully coach of the Franconians from December 2009 to December 2012. Back then, FCN even played first class. After positions at VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hamburger SV, Hecking took on the role of sports director for the first time in Nuremberg in the summer of 2020. At that time he succeeded the released Robert Palikuca. The FCN is currently only 13th in the table. the 2nd league.
