BOLZANO. On the occasion of the May 1st holiday, numerous demonstrations and public events took place in our Province; in addition to this, and in consideration of the expected increase in the tourist influx both in the city and in the other South Tyrolean municipalities, starting from last Friday and until yesterday morning numerous public order and safety services were made operational by order of the police commissioner Province of Bolzano Paolo Sartori with the participation of all the police forces. This is in line with what is indicated by the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior and with what was agreed upon in the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, also – and above all – with a view to preventing any destabilizing initiatives capable of endangering the safety of citizens and those who have decided to spend a few days of holiday with us.

All demonstrations and events – informs the Police Headquarters – took place in a climate of tranquility and without any disturbance to public order.

Furthermore, in this context, a series of activities were carried out to prevent and repress phenomena of widespread illegality falling within the broader operational program of territorial control, which had the aim, in addition to supervising sensitive objectives and infrastructures more complex ones present in our territory – such as railways, roads, motorways, railway and bus stations, public institutions, historical, artistic and architectural assets, buildings of worship and places of aggregation – also that of guaranteeing transport safety and safety of the people who took advantage of the holidays to spend their holidays visiting museums, restaurants, theatres, public places and so on.

As for the specs general prevention operational activities and repression of petty crime and urban decay carried out in the capital’s territory – which were mainly concentrated in the areas of Viale Druso, Via Alto Adige, Via dei Cappuccini, Via Perathoner, Via Garibaldi, Piazza Mazzini, Vicolo San Giovanni, della Stazione Railway and in the surrounding streets (thanks to the effective prevention action implemented by the Polfer), as well as in the streets of the historic center – saw the daily employment of around 40 women and men belonging to the State Police – Police Headquarters, Polfer and Traffic Police –, to the Guardia di Finanza and the Local Police of Bolzano, with the support of the Crime Prevention Department of the State Police. Furthermore, interventions were carried out to prevent and monitor presences at the “Centrum and “Twenty” Shopping Centers as well as in the areas adjacent to the Laurin car park, Lungo Talvera and Lungo Isarco, reported by citizens as meeting places for homeless individuals, sometimes present illegally on our national territory, as well as used as a point of reference for carrying out illicit activities.

Similar activities were carried out in the remaining Municipalities of the Province, with the collaboration of the local police forces responsible for the area.

A thorough check was carried out inside some abandoned buildings which are located in the city capital – in particular in Salita Sant’Osvaldo and in Via Flavon, already the scene of similar police operations – reported by citizens as meeting places for homeless people, sometimes present illegally on our national territory, as well as used as a point of reference for the carrying out of illicit activities. This type of control has the aim of keeping these areas monitored in order to prevent critical situations for public order and safety from consolidating. On this occasion, it was found that these buildings are used as occasional shelters.

Specific checks were also carried out at public establishments subject to reports and complaints from citizens for problems of public order and safety, with identification of the people present, in order to prevent and repress delinquent phenomena and to guarantee the tranquility and safety of people.
