Georgia is one of the important and reliable partners of Azerbaijan.

As Day.Az reports on Thursday with reference to Trend, Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said this while speaking at a panel discussion on the topic “Improving connectivity: European connectivity (renewable energy and digital communications), Middle Corridor (changing Eurasian connectivity)” in within the framework of the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Tbilisi.

Sharifov noted that Azerbaijan is very proud to play a role in the Azerbaijan-EU green corridor project.

The minister emphasized that the project provides for the supply of electricity.

“We all know that the potential of renewable energy production is used for several tasks,” Sharifov said, mentioning that Azerbaijan sees a large role for the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

Sharifov also emphasized that the Asian Development Bank is an important player in the implementation of this project.

“The feasibility study is underway. Azerbaijan plans to introduce renewable energy production capacity, as a result of which we will produce approximately two gigawatts of renewable energy. And this will be realized both through national investment and, mainly, through investment private capital,” he added.

Note that the theme of the 57th annual meeting, which will be held from May 2 to 5, is “Bridge to the Future.”

The first meeting of the Board of Governors will take place on May 4. The opening will mark the official start of the annual meeting. This is an event attended by honored guests from the host country. ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa and Georgian Finance Minister and Chairman of the ADB Board of Governors Lasha Khutsishvili will make statements.

The annual meeting provides ADB Governors with an opportunity to consider development issues and challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting is regularly attended by several thousand participants, including finance ministers, central bank governors, senior government officials, representatives of the private sector, international and civil society organizations, youth, academia and the media.
