Finally the much awaited rain of relief has happened in Dhaka. After one month of continuous heat wave, the residents of the capital saw relief rain. On Thursday (May 2) around 9 pm, there were reports of rain in Uttara, Gulistan, Jatrabari, Sadarghat, Islampur and surrounding areas.
No one knows if the townspeople have ever prayed for rain so much before. The longing of the city dwellers to find peace by touching the rain seemed to be unending in the continuous intense heat. The residents of the city were seen expressing their joy as the long-awaited rain finally arrived.
Meteorological Department had already predicted rain in Dhaka. Clouds started gathering in the sky from 8 pm. Light rain started in different parts of the capital around 9 pm. But the rain did not last long. The rain stopped before 9:30 pm. However, it is reported that there was no rain in many areas of the capital till 9:30 pm.
There was a heat wave throughout the month of April. The heat wave started in Dhaka on April 11. After that, the life of the city dwellers was spent in continuous heat waves. During this period, the daytime temperature exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. Like people from other parts of the country, the residents of the capital were distressed by the intense heat.
Rain has started in Chittagong region on Thursday. It is also raining in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet. However, the trend of rain is more in Chittagong region. According to the Meteorological Department, Kutubdia received the highest rainfall of 27 mm till 6 pm.
Meteorologist Md. Omar Farooq said that in the next 24 hours from 6 pm on Thursday, many places in Chittagong division and two or more places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barisal and Sylhet divisions may experience rain with gusty winds or thunder. At the same time there may be scattered hailstorms at some places. Besides, the weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies elsewhere in the country.
Intense heatwave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Pabna, Jessore, Chuadanga and Kushtia districts. Dhaka, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Barisal Divisions along with Chandpur District and rest of Rajshahi and Khulna Divisions are experiencing mild to moderate heat waves and may subside from some parts of the country.
During this time, day temperature may decrease slightly and night temperature may decrease by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius across the country.
On Thursday, the day temperature dropped slightly in different parts of the country. The extremely intense heat wave that has been sweeping over various regions for the past few days has cleared. In other words, the maximum temperature is no more than 42 degrees Celsius anywhere in the country.
On Thursday, the highest temperature in the country was 41.8 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga. Besides, Rajshahi and Ishwardi recorded 41 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature yesterday in these three districts was 42 degrees Celsius or more.
The maximum temperature in Dhaka has decreased from 39.5 degrees Celsius to 38.3 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has informed that the temperature may decrease due to rain and storm in the next few days.
