Attacker shoots at mayoral candidates in the United States

by time news

An assailant shot a candidate for mayor in the US city of Louisville, Kentucky on Monday. According to local police chief Erika Shields, candidate Craig Greenberg was narrowly missed – a bullet grazed his clothing. Shields did not want to rule out that the arrested suspect acted for political or anti-Semitic reasons or because of a mental illness.

Jewish entrepreneur Greenberg, who is running for the Democrats, reported at a press conference that a man showed up during a meeting of his campaign team. “When we greeted him, he pulled out a gun, pointed it right in my direction and started shooting,” Greenberg said. It was possible to close the door in front of the attacker and barricade it with tables, after which the shooter “escaped”. Greenberg confirmed a bullet grazed his sweater and shirt.

According to Police Chief Shields, the building was evacuated. Nobody was injured. The arrested suspect apparently acted alone.

Greenberg said the incident was an example of the violence that is “far too rampant in our city.” “Clearly there is still work to be done to end this senseless gun violence.”
