Implementing the Tripoli International Airport project…the most important topics of the “Dabaiba” meeting at the Ministry of Transportation

The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, held a meeting today, Sunday, with the Minister of Transportation, Muhammad Al-Shahoubi, to follow up on a number of files related to aviation.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Civil Aviation Authority, Muhammad Shalibak, the director of the Airports Authority, Muhammad Bait Al-Mal, the head of the Transportation Projects Implementation Agency, Sami Al-Absh, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Jumaa, and a number of department directors in the Airports Authority.

The government media office reported that the meeting was devoted to following up on the Airports Authority’s plan to activate local airports, providing the necessary equipment for them, following up on the executive procedures of the Civil Aviation Authority regarding opening new international destinations, and implementing the requirements of the World Aviation Organization to lift the freeze on Libyan airports.

The meeting also discussed the timetable for implementing the passenger terminal at Tripoli International Airport, additional work for operation, and an inventory of the work carried out in the main project for implementing the airport.

Shlipek stressed that the Civil Aviation Authority is working professionally with international organizations with the aim of implementing international requirements for lifting the air embargo, and contracting with a number of international companies to supply and install navigational assistance systems and stations for air navigation centers, which will contribute to lifting the embargo.

Al-Abash also presented a position on the timetable for the implementation of the passenger station with all its annexes and the civil and electrical works to begin work, stressing that the work is progressing well.

In turn, Al-Shahoubi confirmed the return of Royal Jordanian and Qatar Airways flights to and from Libya this month, indicating that discussions are ongoing with Saudi Airlines to resume their flights.

During the meeting, Al-Dabaiba stressed the need to provide the necessary equipment to local airports in accordance with the requirements of the Aviation Authority in order to facilitate the movement of citizens between Libyan cities, directing the need to focus on completing the passenger terminal at Tripoli International Airport according to the approved schedule, and to begin contractual procedures to implement the main project for implementing Tripoli International Airport. It has been suspended since 2010, after reviewing the designs and technical studies.

Al-Dabaiba also directed the Civil Aviation Authority to communicate with organizations related to lifting the ban on the Libyan state, and to work on opening new international flight destinations.
