The United Nations Development Program (UNDP or UNDP) has named the priorities on which it is working with the government of Azerbaijan regarding the “National Adaptation Plans” (the country’s obligations to mitigate climate change), Day.Az reported on Thursday with reference to UNDP Azerbaijan.

“In Azerbaijan, we are working with the government on the National Adaptation Plans in three main areas – water purification, improving the situation in coastal areas and increasing efficiency in agriculture,” noted UNDP Acting Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Alessandra Roccasalvo.

In her opinion, water (Caspian Sea, rivers) is the most important “asset” of Azerbaijan, and all three UNDP priorities in the country are somehow related to water.

“We wanted to help reduce harmful emissions, protect water sources, clean it,” Roccasalvo explained.

According to her, the issue of maintaining and preserving the cleanliness of water sources is one of the issues that are discussed at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP), and this topic will be reflected at COP29.
