The singer Miroslav Imrich, who performed in the rock band Abraxas or the group Tango, has died. He was 71 years old. Information about the death appeared on the singer’s Facebook profile, according to the music server Headliner, Imrich died in the hospital on Saturday night. He was a co-author and performer of hits such as Obžíčnej svět or Karel dorogy ne bere.

Imrich joined Abraxas in 1977, shortly after the formation of this non-conformist group, which experienced its most famous era in the first half of the 80s of the last century.

“In the beginning, Abraxas was inspired by Pink Floyd and emphasized the stage show. During the concerts, films, slides were shown, and the visitors were treated to interesting lights and stage effects as well as sharp new wave rock. The band also captured this on the album Box with songs like King Kong or For the first time, together with the Prague selection, they became domestic stars of the genre,” writes music critic Honza Vedral on the Headliner server.

Disagreements with bandleader Slávek Janda led to Imrich’s departure from Abraxas in 1983. He founded his own Tango group, which was a great success in what was then Czechoslovakia. It fell apart before the November Revolution.

Later, Imrich sang in the metal band Alarm, founded the dance formation Imrich Tekknofactory and the ensemble called Factory. In 1994, he started performing again with Abraxas, with whom they recorded the albums Sado maso and Rituál with the hits Obžíčnej svět or Karel drogy nebere.

“He recorded the last album with Abraxas in 2009, it was called Head in the Clouds. However, his joint journey with the band broke up again due to personal differences,” adds Honza Vedral.

Since 2007, Imrich has been performing with the revived Tang, with whom he had several concerts planned this year as well.

According to Novinky.cz, the singer was found dead on the railway tracks in Prague’s Uhřínevsi by the police on Saturday night. “Dozens of police officers were deployed in the search for the 71-year-old patient who left the hospital, a helicopter with thermal imaging was also called in,” police spokesman Richard Hrdina told the website. According to the server, the musician died in a collision with a train.
