US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stressed that Washington will not consider a defense pact with Saudi Arabia without an agreement to normalize relations between Riyadh and Israel.
Sullivan, speaking in an interview with The Financial Times, stressed that the comprehensive vision includes a bilateral understanding between the US and Saudi Arabia, as well as normalization of relations between Israel and the SA, accompanied by meaningful steps towards the Palestinian Arabs. He emphasized that it is impossible to consider these components separately from each other.
Sullivan also said he expects the president and other senior U.S. officials to present a more detailed plan in the coming months that they believe could advance Israeli security and peace in the region.
The US State Department also confirmed its stance on the issue, denying reports that Washington or Riyadh would support a deal that does not include a normalization component with Israel.
He made this statement against the backdrop of negotiations between Jerusalem and the terrorist group Hamas on the release of the hostages. The militants continue to delay responding to the Egyptian proposal for a deal.
Earlier, Kursor wrote that the media assessed the likelihood of signing a deal between Israel and Hamas on the release of hostages and a temporary ceasefire.
