World Athletics Championships (Budapest-2023): Moroccan Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi wins the bronze medal in the Women’s Marathon

Budapest – Moroccan Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi won the bronze medal in the Women’s Marathon on Saturday morning as part of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Gardadi, 31, covered the distance of 42.195 km in 2h 25min 17sec to win the first Moroccan medal in a women’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships.

The event was won by the Ethiopian Amane Beriso Shankule (2h 24min 23sec), while her compatriot Gotytom Gebreslase finished 2nd with a time of 2h 24min 34sec.

This bronze medal won by Fatima Zahra Gardadi is the 2nd for Morocco during these 19th World Athletics Championships, after the gold medal won by Soufiane El Bakkali in the 3000 m steeplechase.

Morocco, represented at the World Championships (Budapest-2023) by 17 athletes (12 men and 5 women), had won 31 medals during its 18 previous participations in the World Athletics Championships, including 11 in gold, 12 in silver and 8 in bronze, won by 14 athletes.
