Ex-national player Jonas Hector will appear as a presenter in a late-night format at the European Championships. An ex-Bayern player will be there as a TV expert for the Telekom brand.
Telekom is bringing two more prominent additions to its team for the European Championships in Germany. Former national player and ex-Cologne player Jonas Hector will present the half-hour late-night show “Studio Pille-Palle” with actor Fahri Yardin ten times during the tournament, Telekom announced on Tuesday at a joint digital press conference with RTL. The program can be seen for the first time after the opening game on June 14th between Germany and Scotland at 11.30 p.m. Hector ended his career last summer.
Former England international Owen Hargreaves is also new. He played for German record champions FC Bayern Munich from 1997 to 2007. After retiring from his career in 2017, he worked, among other things, as a commentator for a station in his home country.
Joint broadcasting center in Cologne
At the online event from Cologne, Telekom and RTL also presented their plans for joint cooperation at the Euro in June and July. All 51 European Championship games will be shown on the Telekom streaming service MagentaTV, five of them exclusively. RTL will broadcast twelve games in its free TV program. These include a round of 16 and a quarter-final.
Magenta TV and RTL use RTL’s broadcast center in Cologne. They also have a comprehensive team of moderators, commentators and experts.
In 2019, Telekom surprisingly received all media rights for the tournament from the European football association Uefa. ARD and ZDF have acquired sublicenses from Telekom. Accordingly, the two public broadcasters will broadcast 34 of the 51 games live. This includes all of the German team’s games, the opening game, the semi-finals and the final.
