Asian stock markets mostly rose in today’s trade, following last night’s example on Wall Street, as an exception to the trend are the stock markets in China, BTA reported.

Japan’s Nikkei 225, opening today after a national holiday, jumped 1.5 percent to 38,784.91 points and South Korea’s Kospi rose 1.9 percent to 2,728.05 points.

Australia’s S&P/ASX added 0.7 percent to 7,739.00, Taiwan’s Taiex rose 0.3 percent and India’s Sensex was unchanged as the country enters the third phase of a long parliamentary election.

However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite lost 0.9 and 0.1 percent to 18,420.38 and 3,136.62 points, respectively, as the latest data on travel, retail and property sales showed the country’s economy remained shaky. .

In currency markets, the US dollar rose to 154.49 yen from 153.90 yen. The euro traded unchanged at $1.0769.

Last night, Wall Street closed confidently in the green.

The Dow Jones industrial average added 176.59 points, or 0.46 percent, to 38,852.27.

The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 52.95 points, or 1.03 percent, to 5,180.74.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 192.92 points, or 1.19 percent, to 16,349.25.
