(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 07 – The acquittal for the defendants involved in the investigation into the location of the pilots’ tower in the port of Genoa, which collapsed in 2013 due to the impact of the cargo Jolly Nero causing nine deaths, is final. This was decided by the Fourth Criminal Section of the Cassation which rejected the appeals brought by the prosecutor to the Court of Appeal of Genoa and by one of the civil parties against the sentence of the Court of Appeal of Genoa of 10 March 2023 which had acquitted the defendants of the charges of multiple manslaughter and negligent disaster. Among those acquitted also Admiral Felicio Angrisano, former commander of the Port Authority of Genoa and former general commander of the Port Authority as well as for the designers and a member of the Superior Council of Public Works. In November the sentence became final for the three main defendants for the collapse and in particular for the commander, the first officer and the chief engineer of the cargo ship. (HANDLE).
