Kathmandu: Nepal is India’s neighbor, but today it is facing problems which are seen in countries like China and Japan. This problem is the decreasing population of Nepal. Nepal’s population growth is continuously decreasing. According to an official, Nepal’s population growth rate in the last decade has been 0.92 percent per year. This is the lowest in the last eight decades. Releasing its report on demographic indicators on Sunday, the National Statistical Office (NSO) showed that the population growth rate during the review period was less than one per cent per year. NSO Director Dhundi Raj Lamichhane said, ‘The data for the last eight decades In comparison, population growth was at the lowest level. NSO report says that the population of Nepal is currently 292 million. Nepal’s population has increased by 27 lakh between mid-April 2011 and mid-April 2021. According to new data, the country’s national average life expectancy has reached 71.3 years. Female life expectancy is 73.8 years, while male life expectancy is 68.2 years.
Life expectancy increased in Nepal
According to NSO records, the average life expectancy of Nepalese has increased by 21.5 years in the last four decades. Talking about region-wise, the life expectancy of people living in Karnali province of Nepal is 72.5 years, which is the highest. Lumbini province has the lowest life expectancy at 69.5 years. Similarly, at present the infant rate of Nepal has improved a lot. The infant mortality rate declined to 17 per 1000 in 2021. In 2011, this figure was 40 per 1000 infants.
fertility rate decreased
The fertility rate has declined to 1.94 children per woman, which is lower than the old data of 2.1 per woman. The average age at which a woman gives birth to a child in Karnali province is 26.9 years. Whereas in Bagmati province it is 28.4 years. Nepal has been conducting a national census every 10 years since 1911. At present, figures show that the population in Nepal is also gradually decreasing. Population decline has also been observed in Japan and China. The population has decreased in China due to the one child policy.
