The deadline for voters to regularize their title is this Wednesday, May 8th. Those who are going to obtain the title for the first time need to request the document directly at the nearest electoral registry, including for biometrics registration. After this date, those who still have pending issues with the Electoral Court will not be able to participate in the 2024 Municipal Elections.
Throughout the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the closure of electoral registration will be extended for 15 days from May 8th due to the public calamity situation decreed by the state government and in support of the population of Rio Grande do Sul affected by the heavy rains of the last few days .
Regularization
Until May 8, it is possible to resolve disputes with the Electoral Court, including paying fines resulting from absences from previous elections. Voters who had their registrations canceled for not voting in three consecutive elections must also regularize the situation within the deadline.
It is important to highlight that May 8th is also the deadline for other actions:
- transfer the electoral domicile; It is
- review electoral data, such as including the social name or changing the voting location within the municipality.
Requests
Voters who do not have biometrics must go to the nearest electoral office to regularize the situation. However, if the person already has their biometrics registered, it is possible to request the regularization of the canceled title at an Electoral Court unit or through the Electoral Self-Service service, on the TSE website.
For those who are going to obtain their voter registration card, it is necessary to present to the Electoral Court unit:
- official identification document with photo, such as Identity Card (RG). The National Driving License (CNH) must not be used for enlistment;
- proof of residence issued in the last three months; It is
- proof of military discharge (it is only mandatory for males who belong to the conscript class, that is, Brazilians born between January 1st and December 31st of the year in which they turn 19 years of age).
Attention: the presentation of more than one document will be required in situations where the first document presented does not, in itself, contain all the data for which proof is required.
Before looking for the registry office, find out at the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) in your state or at the JE unit in the city where you live if there is a need to schedule an in-person appointment.
Title status
You can check your electoral status on the TSE Portal or at the JE unit closest to your residence.
If your situation is REGULAR, means that the electoral registration is available for voting. If the situation appears as CANCELEDthis means that the voter registration card is unavailable for voting.
As established by the Elections Law (Law No. 9,504/1997), the electoral register will be closed to receive applications for electoral registration or transfer of domicile, among other requests, in the 150 days prior to the voting date. The first round of elections is scheduled for October 6th.
Who should vote
According to the Federal Constitution, electoral registration and voting are optional for young people aged 16 and 17, for illiterate people and those over 70 years of age. They are mandatory from 18 years of age.
However, since 2021, a rule from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) started to allow 15-year-olds to obtain their voter registration card. TSE Resolution No. 23,659/2021 establishes that electoral registration is optional for young people aged 15, from the moment they reach that age. However, this young person will only be able to vote in the 2024 Elections if they turn 16 years old by voting day.
