LTV7 will broadcast the Hockey Studio before every game of the Latvian hockey team and championship finals. LTV sports journalist Reinis Ošinek states that this will be his debut in the PČH studio. “Before that, together with Edgars Masalski and Oleg Sorokin, I managed the hockey studio of the Olympic Games, but that was in February. We all know well that May is the real time for hockey. About experts – it is a great honor to be in the company of such men. Former players of the Latvian national team – Edgars has always been responsible for the safety of the goal, Artis – for the attack. Then I will be like a defender between them in such a composition – I will try to block pucks and help Edgar, at the same time I will try to give a long pass to the forward Artis.”
Edgars Masaļskis, the most played goalkeeper in the history of the Latvian hockey team, who has played as a goalkeeper in 15 world championships and four Winter Olympic Games tournaments, says: “I am happy to be with LTV7 this time in the hockey spring as well. Well, for the third year in a row, I will participate in this great event – this year this work will be a little different for me, because there will be two new colleagues, but I think that everything is getting more and more interesting. Reinis is a television professional, while Arti and I have both played and worked together as coaches in the Latvian national team, now we also train U-20 together, so I think that working together in the studio will be another exciting adventure for us.”
Along with Ošeniek and Masalski, the former striker of the Latvian national hockey team, Artis Ābols, will judge the hockey games. As Artis says, he has always liked acting on television. “I haven’t done it in a while, it will be interesting to go back! I like direct speech – what I see, I will try to tell the audience in understandable language.” Artis represented the national team four times in world elite group championships, played in several hockey clubs. In 2023, he was one of the assistants of the head coach of the Latvian national team Harijas Vītoliņš.
This year, the teams of Canada, Finland, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Austria and Great Britain will meet in the games of subgroup A, while the national teams of the USA, Germany, Sweden, Slovakia, Latvia, France, Kazakhstan and Poland will compete in the games of subgroup B, which also includes the Latvian national team. .
Masalskis points out that this year will definitely be more difficult for the Latvian hockey team. “The opponents will evaluate the Latvian national team more seriously this year, because everyone will want to play very well against Latvia – against the team that won a medal the previous year, but the advantage of the Latvian hockey national team is, of course, huge experience from last year – it will definitely help. This year, the focus should be on ensuring that the team has a consistently good and stable performance for 60 minutes – so that it does not happen that, for example, they sleep at the beginning of the game and then try to fight back. On the other hand, we – on the other side of the field – must definitely wait, hope and believe that the Latvian national team can repeat the same high performance as the previous year. Of course, there are possible drops, but the main thing is to support the Latvian national team in any results.”
