Mr. Akhannouch, who spoke at the forum of regional elected representatives of the RNI in Guelmim-Oued Noun, underlined the efforts made by all components of the government for the implementation of development programs, including compulsory health coverage, aid for housing and direct social assistance, adding that the government ensured the implementation of these projects before the end of its mandate.
The president of the RNI noted that the government has launched a set of reforms which particularly concern the health and education sectors, specifying that any reform “will not be easy and requires courage”.
In this regard, he assured that the government majority is working with “cohesion, harmony and consensus” to carry out the various royal projects, such as direct social assistance and housing assistance, indicating that the government ensures proper implementation of these programs “with the necessary transparency and clarity” to allow citizens to benefit from these projects which reflect the true dimension of the social state.
In this context, he reviewed a set of structuring projects in the region, in particular the regional hospital of Guelmim which will be established as a University Hospital Center by increasing its reception capacity and providing it with large capacities. , to be operational during the year 2025, in addition to the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy with a capacity of 100 students, with the hope of increasing it to reach 400 students per year.
He also mentioned the project to create two seawater desalination plants in the region, specifying that these two stations will allow the irrigation of 10,000 hectares of land, which will contribute to increasing the added value of the region at the agricultural level, as well as the great potential of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region in the field of renewable energies, in particular the production of green hydrogen.
Mr. Akhannouch also recalled the great efforts made by the Ministry of Agriculture to eradicate the cochineal, stressing that 5,000 hectares of cacti resistant to this insect have been planted so far and that 9,000 hectares will be planted in the over the coming year, or more than 32,000 hectares.
He affirmed, on the other hand, that the regional forums constitute a real opportunity for the party’s elected officials in the region to present their proposals as well as the different challenges and issues they face at the local and regional level.
