Mumbai: Suryakumar Yadav, who led Mumbai Indians to a memorable win by playing an unbeaten inning of 102 runs in just 51 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, said after the match that he has spent so much time on the field after a long time. Surya did not let the team come under pressure by hitting 12 fours and six sixes. On the basis of his unbroken partnership of 143 runs in 79 balls with Tilak Verma (37) for the fourth wicket, Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets here on Monday. This is a record partnership for the fourth wicket for Mumbai. After restricting Sunrisers to 173 runs for eight wickets, Mumbai Indians achieved the target by losing three wickets in 17.2 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav said at the awards ceremony after the match, ‘I am doing this after a very long time. This is the first time since December 14 that I fielded for 20 overs and batted for 18 overs. I’m fine though. I think it was the need of the hour for me to play such innings and help the team win. Three wickets had fallen and I had to play till the end. I knew there would be a lot of dew and I would have to play carefully until the seam of the ball became a little soft. I knew what to do when the ball was swinging and then I practiced such shots.

This is Sunrisers’ fifth defeat in 11 matches. The team is at fifth position in the table with 12 points. For Mumbai, experienced leg spinner Piyush Chawla (three wickets for 33 runs) and captain Hardik Pandya (three wickets for 31 runs) bowled brilliantly. Jasprit Bumrah (one wicket for 23 runs) was once again economical while Anshul Kamboj (one wicket for 42 runs) impressed in his debut match.
