«With the future Ponte Nova bus station we will create another milestone for a better transition to public transport, in line with the requirements of the provincial plan for sustainable mobility – states the provincial councilor for Mobility and Infrastructure, Daniel Alfreider -This project was conceived together with the Municipality of Nova Ponente and adapted to the mobility needs of the inhabitants of the Val d’Ega. It is particularly important for commuters and schoolchildren in the Ega Valley to be able to count on a safe transfer point to public transport and to be able to reach the new stops via an illuminated pedestrian crossing and pavements.”
To make the most of the new bus station, the adjacent car park will be expanded. This will require moving the lane of the state road heading to Nova Ponente. With the expansion of the car park, the existing sidewalk will also be widened, again in the direction of Nova Ponente. «We have also provided traffic islands to prevent overtaking maneuvers and increase pedestrian safety», he explains Norberto Antonioni, sole manager of the procedure at the Central-South Road Technical Office. Rockfall barriers will also be installed and debris collection basins will be created above the state road. Roadway drainage and signage will also be improved.
The works were awarded to the company Brunner and conductor. The construction works, directed by Simon Neulichedl, will continue for six months. The total approved costs of the construction project amount to approx two million euros, of which 1.9 million euros paid by the Province and 100,000 euros paid by the Municipality. During the works, existing bus stops will be temporarily relocated. The Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility Office and the line managers agree on this point. Furthermore, it has been agreed with the contractor and the Bolzano/Bassa Atesina Road Service that the necessary traffic light checks will be reduced to a minimum. The traffic situation will be monitored to minimize the inconvenience caused by the works.
